ICDS Training Programme for Anganwadi Workers
As a pursuance of National Policy for children, the Department of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Human Resource Development initiated Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) on 2nd October,1975 on an experimental basis. It has now been developed into one of the world’s largest and most unique programme for early childhood care and development. The programme at the field level is implemented by teams, each comprising of Child Development Project Officer, Supervisor and Anganwadi Workers, along with Medical and Para Medical staff of Primary Health Centers and its Sub-centers.
The Anganwadi workers, key functionary in the implementation of the ICDS programme, are the grass-root level workers.
The Training of the Anganwaldi workers is entrusted to Voluntary Organisations (NGOs). All over India 450 Training Centres are engaged for the training of Anganwadi workers. In West Bengal there are 30 Anganwadi Training Centres (AWTC). ASHI(WB) has undertaken this Training Programme at the request of State Govt. since 1983. Untrained workers selected from different Blocks by State Govt. are deputed for training to the AWTC.
